Course Description:
 
The course is specialized basic course as well as the elective course for students majoring in earth sciences and environmental sciences. This 40 hour course aims to introduce the principles and methods of GIS and focus on data models of spatial data, management modes, processing algorithms, application analysis and visualization.
The course prerequisites include course work in computer programming and principles of database. By the end of course, students will be able to do thematic application analysis with GIS after teaching and computer experiments, understand the frontiers of GIS and master the basic skills of using GIS software such as ArcGIS Workstation and ArcView GIS.
